Any tips on removing front fuel tank on 25' Outrage?
For anyone removing their tanks in the future...I ended up using a piece of sheet metal to hammer in between the tank and the wall of the cavity to loosen up the foam from the tank....This took awhile but eventually I was able to use a pretty good sized pry bar (2nd trip to lowes) to break it loose....I spent good 12 hours today getting the tank out and cleaning up the fuel cavity and everything else...
when i pulled the tank from my 18 outrage it wouldnt budge either. so i built a wooden frame where i could attach a come along to and pull it up. i took (2) 4x4s and made vertical posts on either side of the boat and attached (1) 4x4 across. i supported the vertical posts w/ 2x4s. i then attached a come along to the cross member and to one of the tank fittings and pulled the tank out cavity with ease. it is a lot easier removeng the sorrounding foam when the tank is removed. i too tried removing the foam first for an hour or two and got inpatient. she'll pop right out if u have a good spot 2 pull from above with a come along!
My 22' Revenge has a 77gal. tank. After removing the fuel, I used a battery powered sawzall with a 12" wood blade to make multiple cuts both fore and aft and port to starboard. This cut the foam into blocks which were easy to snap out. (I was careful to stay away from the tank and the gel coat) After removing the surrounding foam I added water to the well. The tank became it's own lift bag. I reached down with one hand and gave it a tug and out she popped. Total time 1 1/2 hrs.
