Hello to all
I have a teak question? What is the best way to take care of teak? THe first season I put oil on it and 2 months later is was "black". I have seen people on the site putting epoxy on the teak. Now my whaler is in the garage and oil down. should I keep going with oil or think about teak. on a side note I love the look of the oiled teak. Thanks G
It's almost a matter of taste and how much maintainance you want to do on it. If you do the oil method it looks fantastic, but you will have to routinely clean and oil it to keep the look. If you put a varnish of sorts on it then you will have less to maintain, but eventually you will have to sand it down and reapply more varnish. I have 12 coats of Epifanes on mine and have been very pleased with the outcome. a lot depends on how you store your boat and how much it will be just sitting in the weather and sun
I have tried teak oils, and I'm not big on them ! I like SEMCO Teak Sealer. Look at the console picture on my personal page to see what it looks like.
It is " SEMCO Natural Color" You can look at it also in the "Articles" section under [Filling the Hydraulic Steering System] six years later. In this picture it needs to be reapplied again. ( on my list of things to do ) The reason I like this product, It goes on easy and Most Important Wipes off the the fiber glass Easy Without leavening a residue.
