What purpose does or did the cylindrical disc just forward of the bow locker serve? I presume it was used for filling the hull with foam but not sure and have always been curious.

Well I ground mine down and did a little fiberglass work to maintain thickness, any way it's gone now.

Yes, it is where the liquid foam was poured into the hull cavity during construction. Is is called the Sprue Hole. All Whalers have one somehere.
