Last year I purchased a new Rubrail installation kit and it's been sitting in my basement since. I've been told you have to lay it out flat in the hot sun for at least a day before attempting to install it. I've recently developed a bad back and am taking A Little Madness in for a bottom paint and engine service job, along w/a new trailer. I was wondering if I should just go ahead and turn this over to them to install as well, or wait until summer is truly here and tackle it myself when my back's been repaired. Your thoughts and advice. Thanks.

No need for sun, A careful hand on the heat gun will do the trick just as well. The idea is that it needs to stretch a bit to fit into the track. It is a pain to do yourself. Better to have one guy stretching and heating while the other guy crams it in the track. I don't think I could have got mine on myself. You can do it, but it will tire you out and make your hands sore, and you will get frustrated without a friend to help you.

I agree with jquigley, you need someone else to help. The sun works great to heat the rail up before installation. I also got a bucket of really hot, soapy water and soaked it in that before I put mine on. Worked great, but definatly have some help.

Sun, or just a warm day works too, it depend's on how YOU feel about it, and what the Dr. says you can and can't do afterwards (recovery). I like to "proudly" take "challenges" on myself, then screw it up and then get on "W/C' begging for help. Either way the rub rail is a 2 person operation best done on a warm sunny day, hope the "back" is O.K...

I did mine in the garage with some heater running, then a little assist here and there with the gun. 2 people though.

Thanks to all for your responses as you've guided me to having my boat guy do it. I'm facing back surgery in the near term and don't need to overdo it. I'll share the heat and soapy suds tips, along w/2 strong young guys for the stretching tight part. Scotch, No, Captain Morgan, Absolutely! And I can do that BEFORE I write the check! LOL Thanks again to all.

I think he was right with scotch actually. Captain Morgan makes for difficult check writing. A little Johnny Walker Black though, and its a different story, "smoooooooth"
(Black label 'cuz I'm in a 13 sport. If i was in that new 370 it would be Blue )

Aarrgghh!!! Did I not mention that I'm a Blow-Boatin' Swabbie as well as a Stink-Pot Cruiser? Of course it's Capt Morgan!
