Anyone here used this product? I have it ready to install but need to wait until warmer weather. I like the concept but dunno if it's all they say it is as far as staying put and not becoming a mess.
Thanks,
Mark

I installed one on my 15'
I will say this. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS-EXACTLY.
I also had a problem with the adhesive package, it was dried out. Make sure yours is OK before you start. The Company provided excellent replacement service. I had a new one the next day.
The other issue I had was that I found the smoothing roller to be a little lightweight. I used a rolling pin from my kitchen.
I also cut mine off and did not go up over the strake starting point below the bow eye. I ended mine, at the strake.
Once I completed mine and let it cure, I filled all the edges with 3M 5200. It has not moved in two years.
It works as described. I can beach on a concrete ramp with no worries.

Thanks for that reply... I was also wanting to avoid the strake I got a DVD with mine with explicit instructions. No roller, just a 'burnishing tool' which looks similar to a very heavy/thick putty knife. Perhaps a hard rubber wall paper seam roller would be good ? I'll look into the 3M product.

I have installed a couple of these. Be thorough it will be an easy job.
I also trim the front of the Keel Guard (contrary to the instructions) to die into the strakes and it has been just fine.
It is important that the keel guard NOT rest on a keel roller on your trailer if the boat is trailered.

I have never put one on but have thought about. It sure would be nice if you could take some pictures of the steps. I think it would make a good reference Article.
I use this tool when doing laminate. Cheep and a nice little roller. Just a thought.

I had one on my SeaKing and did a very good job. I am going to buy one for the whaler and am thinking of going with sand (color). Did anyone use a different color other than white? Thanks BG

I have not installed mine yet, but the almond color is a perfect match for the hull on my 1989 15-footer.
Although the instructions do say it may loosen up if sitting on a keel roller. my sister in law has had hers resting on a keel roller for many years and it has stayed put.

Mine is off white and basically disappeared when I put it on the hull. You have to look close to notice it.

I bought the product from Cabelas so one can go to www.cabelas.com and do a search for keel guard for some pics. There is also a keel shield product which appears to be the same kind of thing...just a different maker.
Basically install goes like this: First tape off the area for the guard with blue painter's masking tape so you can keep an idea of the exact area to 'treat' Step two is to scuff up the surface with a Scotchbrite pad supplied with the kit or a pad/orbital sander. Third clean that area with alcohol or xylene or acetone. Next apply the primer and last apply the guard. It has tape over the glue area that you peel off gradually as you apply. Use the burnishing tool or hard roller to force it down..especially the edges.
There is a DVD supplied which goes over all the steps in good detail. Like any job, the prep is the key it seems. I'll take pics and try to figger out how to post them as I go along.

I was debating on getting one for my 2008 130 Sport. I am not sure if the white or off white would be the better match for color. What length would anyone recommend, the website says a 4-5' should suffice. That seems really short for a small boat that I will be beaching. Any recommendations? Thanks

Can't help you on the color, but 5 feet should be more than sufficient - you only need to cover the deepest, front part of the keel.

Mine is five feet on a 15' boat. It is more than adequate. As stated, mine extends from the strake to where the hull rounds out, at the bottom. It completely covers the bow entry "V".
As stated, it is important that NO trailer rollers contact the Guard, while at rest, on the trailer.

I put one on last year and it works great for me. We beach the boat alot so it was necesary. The company was very helpful. They sent me some samples to match up to the boat. The only problem is if you have keel rollers on your trailer it will start ripping the guard off.

Seems everyone that has them is well satisfied. I'm still waiting for a day warm enough to do the job.... Directions say it should be over 60°. All the prep work is done except the primer. The place I will launch frequently is all drain rock so this should be really helpful in keeping the boat nice.

Almond is the best color match for Desert Tan hulls.

Interesting idea, as I "Beach" a lot, I'm not too crazy about the "Roller" problem, it's almost "ALL" sand here (Barrier beaches) but, if there's a rock under the sand in a 50 mile radius I'LL FIND IT !
