Anyone tried this combination to solve the lack of seating issue with the leaning post alone? I know I can use the cooler under the leaning post but its no where near as comfortable as a RPS and it would be nice to have the option to flip the seat back to fish off the stern.I put them both in the boat and there seems to be enough room. Just wanted to know if anyone has done this and if they liked it? Thanks.

98Dauntless,
Are you talking about using the RPS in place of a stern seat?

From his personal page, it appears he has a 1983 Outrage 18 with an RPS installed.

Many people just use the RPS as a leaning post. Some people even put a cushion on top of the RPS seat back so it is more comfortable to sit on when the seat is flipped forward.

While the RPS seat back is great to sit on, I found the handles were too close together making sitting for extending periods very uncomfortable.

When replacing them (due to corrosion), I moved them closer to the ends. The new position allows more space and is much more comfortable. This may not work for some since they span the rod holder rendering it useless.

Just putting it out there.

I have seen a cushion that goes over everything including the handles and the rod holders. When you don't want the cushion, it removes easily.

Here is one idea.

The boat is an Outrage 18 classic. Jerry means having a leaning post, and using the rps a few feet behind the leaning post for passenger seating. I'm the braintrust who suggested this. I thought it might be better than the long stern seat because one could face the stern for fishing. Jerry replaced his RPS with a leaning post, and wants to hear what others think about using the RPS in stern.

He has an Outrage 18 and his user name is 98Dauntless?

If we spell out our questions and queries clearly, the answers will tend to be more clear and useful.

To answer the question, I don't think there is sufficient room in the classic Outrage 18 for an added RPS behind a leaning post. The Outrage 25 might accommodate one but for the Outrage 18 a better solution is either the old Four Man Pilot seat or CPDs Hi-Lo seat.

Even with a larger boat the full width stern seat offers more seating.

There is room on the 18, but to sit facing the stern your feet have to rest in the splashwell. The RPS is no deeper than the stern seat.

One of my friends has a Outrage 22' with the factory leaning post.

Directly behind the leaning post facing rear are 2 factory Springfield swivel chairs.
These chairs cannot be swiveled forward for use but they can swivel sideways.
Not sure how much room their would be in an 18 to do this but might take up less room than the RPS...

Thanks for clarifying that Dan,I should have been more specific, and it was Dans idea. I posted the RPS for sale in the classsifieds section if it sells great, I could use the money to help pay for the other upgrades Im making on the boat. If it dosent sell and I feel that after a few fishing trips I need seating,I may try putting it behind the OEM leaning post. There is room and yes with the seat facing rearward your feet would be in the splashwell, but I suppose its better than standing? I was posting this question to get feedback from anyone who has tried this. Thanks.
