Contact Mike @ Nautical Lumber. They are listed under Site Sponsor. Top quality materials and craftsmanship.

Go with Mahoghany. I am restoring mine this winter and will post picks. Looks awesome. Much nicer than Teak. It holds Urethane much better than Teak also. I used my old Teak ones as templates. U can purchase some rough wood from a local lumbar yard that deals with exotic wood and do them yourself.

I am refinishing my teak parts this winter. Certainly, it is okay to switch to mahogany, but teak is the original wood. Also teak isn't meant to hold a urathane finish. Just put on a few coats of teak oil. Teak is naturally very oily, which is what makes it great for a marine application. I will post project photos and details in the near future. You'll need some basic woodworking skills and tools if yo decide to make the pieces yourself. Good luck with your project and post some pix so we can enjoy it with you.

Thanx for all the replies, I really appreciate it. I really would like to get the gunwale caps. I know mahogany would be beautifull, but then I guess I would be in the dilema of the additional wood on the boat being different. Out of curiosity, do you guys have any good tips for the teak as far as prep, sand, oil, etc... I've heard, bleach, and a few other tricks, but ?

I would NOT use any chemicals. The best way is to sand, sand, and sand.

Teak is a much better choice than mahogany for the gunwale boards on this boat. It will hold up much better and be original.
I agree with Joe's recommendation of NEVER using nasty chemicals on the teak. Teak "cleaners" will ruin the wood in the long run.
Apply a good base of teak oil and keep it up.

You guys are making me feel bad now. Am I going to have to get some Teak now instead of redoing mine in mahoghany? I am going with the original color and console layout just to keep it leaning towards the original side.
