So I have my 13' stripped down of all gelcoat. Patched up the holes and faired in the patch areas... now I need to do a final fairing to include the filling of the grinder (divets) marks. Other than smearing the whole bottom with bondo and spending a year sanding, is there as more liquid filler or heavy primer that will spread in and fill these well? I'm prepared for some sanding and blocking but the whole hull needs to be addressed.
Any recommendations here. I love this site and have caught the restoration bug. My wife hates you all

I have heard some have had success by pouring a small amount of gel coat on the hull and spreading it with a squeege, like one you would use to clean your shower door. When you do this, the gel coat will flow only into the low areas and the high spots will remain uncovered. If you are unsatisfied on the first pass, make a few more. I am told it only takes a small amount of gel coat for this as you are basically smearing it around into only the low spots.
Just one idea.

Try this stuff. It was recommended by another member who is in the business.

Haven`t used it myself yet but I intend to. If the grinder marks are small, just use finishing putty available at any auto parts store. I wouldn`t try the gel coat method. It will be hard to sand, and probably will create a mess.

Well Daddy,
It is not that complicated really.
And I will add very much like auto body reconditioning.
All the same techniques will apply.
With the best of marine products that is.
I may be able to direct you to My Girl's refit on this good site which should give you a few helpful ways to get the job done.
I don't want to sound like a commercial here but there is no such thing as to much prep to gel coating or resurfacing your favorite girl..
For more info you will reach me at my own EMAIL.
Serge.

Thanks all for the support and ideas. I have already put so many hours into this that I'm not concerned about a few more to make it right.
Though I have seached throught this site and all the good info into it I did not see details on the this phase of the project. I'll definately look at My Girls page now, thanks.
I was wondering what is the feelings on using epoxy, like a west systems product over the poly resin patches I have already done. Is this a no no or no problems?

I have heard from Spectrum that gelcoat will not cure properly over epoxy products, anyone heard the same, or tried it with success?

As Binkie suggested Evercoat works on just this kind of problem. I have used on 13 and the bottom looks new. Its easy to apply, sand, and finish. i'm using on the interior of the fly bridge on my Sportfisher right now.

"like new" sounds pretty good I gotta find where I can get it here in Florida. They don't have it a West Marine.
Can I Gelcoat over the top...?

To buy Evercoat try Finishmasters Automotive and Industrial Paint Supply. They are a national chain and in most areas. Check them out on the Internet for a store in your area. If not any Automotive paint supply will carry it. Forget West marine. It is an auto body repair material.

Evercoat has marine products as well. I purchased mine at a locally owned marine supply.

I pick my supplies up at a fiberglass supply company called Revchem. I just sprayed gel coat over my Evercoat project and it worked well.

The Evercoat product I purchased is Formula 27. As I said from a local marine supply.
If you click the link that binkie posted and hit the marine tab at the top, you will find it.
