I recently acquired this boat from a guy. It had been sitting for five years. I cleaned it up and got the motor running. I have researched all over the web and I cannot find this model anywhere. The title says that it is a 1970. Of course it has no tag pre 1972 and I can't find anything stenciled anywhere. It looks like it has lots of paint layers. I would like to restore this boat to original someday, whenever i find out what model it is. Thanks. More pics farther down the page

For all intents and purposes, the answer to your question is no. Whaler did not make that boat. It s not uncommon for titles to have erroneous information.

I do not know what make of boat it is. The hull form is similar to, but obviously not, the 1958-1970 13 foot Whaler.

I hate to see titles written incorrectly like this.
The person who put Boston Whaler on this title should be tarred and feathered and run out of town never to return or allowed to put anything on a title again.

Can you imagine if all of our car titles said Mercedes or Rolls Royce...
Wow, my VW with a Rolls Royce title would really be worth something...

Sorry that you got caught up with this misrepresented boat and title...

yea its in pretty good shape, after hours of scrubbing. I just have one small fiberglass repair to do on the bottom and fix the ring on the front that the trailer winch hooks to. It is starting to pull through the hull. The motor is actually a 1966 mercury 35, I have a plastic tote over the top in the picture, while i has the motor shroud off.

HIN If the boat has a hull id number. The first three letters is the manufacturers id code. You can go to the USCG website and convert the mic letters to a name. Example SER is Searay. BWC is Boston Whaler.
The number must on the title listed somwhere to identify it.

wrangler,

HINs were not used in 1970. They were not implemented until 1972 so this boat will not have one.

It has an aluminum tag rivited on the hull, but the only thing i can make out on it is part of the model # and part of the serial # .only 2 numbers on each. it looks like some numbers were embossed and some were painted on which have faded over the years i guess.

What is the hull id / serial number on the title? Maybe that would help. Its definitely not a whaler but looks like it could be a cool little boat.

I guess that makes sense since everyone is saying they didn't have numbers back then. I have never owned a pre 72 boat so I have not had this issue. Wish I could be of more help.

Good luck

I did notice today that it used to have about a 6" oval shaped decal on both the port and starboard sides of the hull, all the way in the rear. Not sure who used an oval decal but it might spark someones memory. It also looks like the boat used to be blue. And the rub rail is red.
Thanks

You might try "fiberglassics.com" for an id.

Spend as little money on that boat as you can to get it running decently, and either sell it or keep it to use. If you get the small amount of money back you spent on when you sell it, you will be lucky, Take it from me, never restore a boat unless it was an expensive valuable boat to start with. I have spent a lot of time and money restoring a Cobia 18 ft. Bass boat and took a bath when I sold it. That free boat that you have may turn out to be a great little fishing boat, but as the popular saying goes If you put lipstick on a pig, its still a pig.
