Hi there. I wonder if anyone on the board can help me out. I recently purchased a 1986 Montauk and it is powered by a 2002 Evinrude/Johnson 90 hp Bombardier. I just took my family out for her maiden voyage and a buzzer alarm that I've never heard before was continuously sounding while the engine was on. The engine was cooling well I think because there was a very steady stream of cooling water coming out of it. My only guess is oil pressue, maybe? There is one gauge that I did not recognize on the panel...Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I suggest you refer to your owner's manual for an explanation of what a continuously sounding alarm means.

On the OMC outboards I have owned (none newer than 1990) a steady buzzer meant one of three things:

An overheat condition.

A no oil condition.

Fuel restriction.

I do not know if this would apply to a 2002 Johnson 90 HP.

There is no "oil pressure" with a two stroke outboard.

pontis,

You might also read this article. It might help you in testing the warning horn.

They guys have it covered, I'm not too familiar w/ that outboard, I had the auto.. oiler disconnected on my 94' Johnson 50 H.P. (mix myself, only 6 gallons) but, from dealing with outboard demons when ever that buzzer went off I either hit a plastic bag under water that blocked the water intake for the pump ( don't ya love when that happens) or more probably a weak water pump (replace every 2 years), I used to replace them every year for cheap insurance, but as suggested before, CHECK YOUR OWNERS MANUAL to make sure what that buzzing sound is, or contact "Bombardier". check thermostat, faulty over heat sensor, and for blockages. There used to be two crayons you could buy from the outboard dealer (I'm showing my age Sad

you would put a mark on the head of the motor with one color, another color next to that mark, One would dissapear (Melt) when the motor reached operating temp, the other mark would stay there or Melt off (If the motor was running past recommended temp.).
