I fell into a boat partnership on a 1994 Outrage 24 (old hull style, same as Guardian). It weights 7K lbs loaded down and I'm needing to acquire a new vehicle to tow it. It lives on a trailer at the marina dry storage, and I'll mostly need to tow it to the gas station, launch ramp, and marina dry storage. But I'd also like a vehicle able to tow it from Dana Point to launch from San Diego (60 miles on freeway) occasionally. What are you guys using to tow your Whaler? What do you recommend I use? My budget is roughly $30k and looking to buy used, no more than 4-5 years old.
I would think any newer 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton pickup would work. In addition to over- all weight, you want to be sure your trailer dosen't exceed the allowable tongue weight. All assuming the trailer has functioning surge brakes.
