How can you tell if old repairs are Epoxy or Gelcoat?
My plan is to re-gelcoat entire boat. I see areas on outer hull that have been repaired by PO. Im not sure if they just used marine tex epoxy and buffed it out or if they actually used gelcoat. Is there a way to tell? I'm leary of shooting gelcoat over large swaths of epoxy repairs. Thanks.
Before taking the time, trouble and expense of "painting" your boat with gel coat I recommend compounding the boat with a fine compound followed by hand waxing with a good quality wax. Old gel coat is very restorable and generally much better looking than a respray.
