Wondering if anyone is currently using this model of fish finder. It offers a Fish-ID function with an optional audible "beep". The problem...you have to put your ear to the screen to hear it. Nothing about volume control in manual, Simrad videos or online. Very frustrating.
I have 2 new Simrads this year on my Whalers -- one 9" NSX and a 9" GO
I'm in the process of installing the GO, and the power cable has a blue wire that can be hooked up to an external speaker for the beeps. I haven't hooked this up yet, but I might in the future.
On the NSX, are you able to get access to the back of it to see if the blue wire is attached to anything? If not, is the volume on the unit turned up?
I had signed up for notification of reponses to my posts, but that never happens. I didn't realize that you responded. I too have the NSX 9.The only volume control I see is the audio controller (basically radio or bluetooth input) Is there another volume control that affects the other sound producing aspects (like the echo functions?) I 've combed through everything a dozen times.
I'm not sure to be honest, but I'll check next time I'm at the Montauk.
I'm getting used to the Simrad myself. I've always had older-gen MFDs, so while this new one is great, there's a lot more options to learn.
If you haven't done a ton of setup yet, it might be worth resetting the unit to factory defaults. It could be that it's set to use an external speaker with no actual speaker in place and connected. In my case, I found it odd that Whaler will install the NSX but I don't believe it's got an NMEA 2000 network because it doesn't show any engine data. For the time being I'm using the Smartcraft gauges and vessel view mobile until I get into the console and check out the wiring.
My dealer contacted their Simrad rep and posed the question on my behalf. The answer was immediate - he knew of no way to increase the volume on the audio beep / FISH ID function. He said to watch for any software updates. I'm extremely disappointed with that answer.
