Prop #’s - 0A2072X.
I bought this last spring as our 2nd boat at our lake access only Adirondack camp - we use it as the commuter boat to get to town or fish
Anyhow it runs at about 25 mph with just me maybe 22 w my wife. But when we add our 90# dog I can not get it to plane out even moving one of us up front and it’s frustrating - I’m 210 is wife is 180 plus dog at 90 so about 500#
Friends have told me to change the prop to a higher pitch - in all the boats I’ve owned I’ve never changed props so I’m looking for advice
I’m not sure pitch of existing- the numbers do not make sense you tube video said should be 4 digits diameter then pitch - I’ll send #’s next
I have a spare that looked brand new in box it is clearly a 12 pitch so if existing is a 10 would that be an improvement

So I guess my main question is what should I expect from this boat - is this normal?- is there a fix? - I would have hoped we could get 3 or 4 people kids gear etc
I like the boat but …

Any suggestions would be appreciated

D-

Your results are normal and expected. The 2001 13 Sport is a challenge to get on plane with a full load and a 40hp.

The max weight capacity for this hull is 935 lbs. The hull is 580 lbs.

Prop sizing is two numbers, diameter and pitch.

Presuming you are not at wide open rpm's you could drop 2" of pitch and that may get you up on plane. Worth a try.

The classic Whaler 13' Sport (1958-1998) has a hull weight of 360 lbs and a max capacity of 1200 lbs with a 40hp rating.

Aside - I made a dozen or so trips to a family camp on Raquett Lake via Blue Mtn, Eagle and Utowana back in the day.

Thanks so much for that quick response Phil
Any idea on those numbers on my existing prop?
OA2072X?
When you say drop 2” you mean a higher or lower number?
Yes our place is on Raquette- mouth of the Marion River - I bought land in 1980 - you paddled right by
Guess I should’ve bought an older one!
Thanks again
