This is my first post on the forum! Does anyone know why someone would cut a circle out of the bottom of the anchor well? It seems solid underneath. I'm going to glass over it, unless there is a reason it's there.
Montauk 17 BWCN6197H293 - whaler hull ID (not sure what it means)
Custom restoration project, starting from scratch.
Looking forward to this forum, thanks in advance :)
Can't upload an image is that common? - ughhh The disc is about 7 inches in diamer
During construction, the outer hull and inner liner/deck are joined and foam is poured through a hole. When the foam expands, the excess escapes via holes in the gunnel cap and sprue hole. Excess foam is trimmed and the surface is coated with epoxy.
Every Boston Whaler since the beginning has at least 1 sprue hole.
Clean the sprue surface and cover and use marine sealant to re-adhere the cover.

Awesome info! I've had my other 15 Super Sport Whaler for 18 years and never saw one before :)
This new (old) boat is way rough, I figured it was just another patch job haha

Hey Phil one more thing...
I'm doing some (a lot) of fiberglass on this boat, should I just go ahead and glass over the cutout and smooth the entire anchor well deck?
Thanks, I'm a noob, any advice is appreciated.
