Have a couple of sections about 2' long each on the port side where the rubrail is loose ... was rubbing against some PVC pipes during the last hurricane. What adhesive does Whaler use ... do they use 5200 or is the less permanent 4200 better? Thanks.
The rubrail is 2 parts. The reciever and an small black insert in the middle of the face.
To repair, you need to pry out the insert, starting at the aft end and pull it out till you are 1' past the area to work on.
Pulling the insert will reveal rivets. If the rivet has sheared or broken, you will need to pull out the broken head and drill/push in the remaining rivet in the hull. Fill the hole with marine sealant (Boat Life's Life Caulk) or marine expoxy (Marine Tex).
You will want to use screws (stainless steel #6 x 1-3/4, pan head). Drill a pilot hole 1-2" away from broken rivet. Put a dab of marine sealant on the threads of the screw. You want the head to be flush with the receiver.
Once all the screws are in place, reinstall the insert working back toward the stern.
Note working the insert should be done in warm temperatures. It is more pliable.
