Hello, I’m looking to purchase a 2004 Montauk 170 that I’d like to install a factory live well? Is this possible? Please advise? Thank you

Not possible.

The factory optioned livewell offered on the Montauk 170 I is no longer in production.

You might be able to install the current version but it will be challenging to do and very, very expensive.

Contact your local dealer's parts department for pricing. If they are unhelpful, contact Justin in Parts at Nauset Marine. They are known for good customer service.

That is awesome response. I appreciate the input and direction. Do you think it would be worth the money? I need a bait well. And I don’t want it looking like “you know what”?

I am not familiar with all the available choices. I would do some serious googling.

I just looked at the options for the current Montauk 170 online. They now offer the livewell as a part of the RPS seat. Given this model has a below deck tank, the plumbing design will make installing this in your model totally unrealistic.

Sorry.

I believe a good option is a "bucket" style livewell. I am familiar with two sizes, a five gallon and a 2.5 gallon. On our larger boats we have used the five gallon model because of having more anglers aboard. On our Sport 13 we use the smaller well. These come with a battery powered bubbler to keep the well aerated. They are available in white. We use a bungee cord to secure the well while underway. It's portability makes it easy to move around as needed. We find it easier to use than an installed well.

The batteries can wear down quickly so we always have spares aboard. We also remove the batteries between uses and so we can give the entire well a good rinsing after use. If using in salt or brackish water a good rinsing is very important.
