Hello fellow Whalers my Boat is a 1988 Montauk 17 2006 E-Tec 90 love the fact it sips fuel. Been doing a lot of Mackerel and herring fishing this season, I am in the Bay of Fundy New Brunswick it can get pretty choppy fast, and the fog will roll in when you least expect it. I would like to start wandering out of my harbour into the Bay in search of Halibut, Flounder and a few other ground fish. So I am looking at this Dauntless 240 for stability and space. Does anybody on this site own one and can give me a real sense of how they like it. Cheers and tight lines Wayne

Welcome to Whaler Central.

We only have 4 members that list that model boat in their profile.

You can see which member those are here if you click on the "Model" field at the top and scroll down to "Dauntless 240".

Wayne -

While the Dauntless 240 will give you an improved ride due to more weight and LOA, it is typically a near shore design.

Consider looking at the Outrage series if available.

When strongly considering a candidate boat, insist you do a sea trial before purchase and go offshore a few miles or so on a less-than-calm day.

Hi Phil that is my concern, waves rolling over the stern. Regrettably there is not a lot of outrage's available in my price range and in new condition. I am going to have a sea trial Monday. Good advice thank you. Wayne

Wayne,

Do a search and click on members. Put their name in and see if their email address is listed.

I have come across a 2018 Wellcraft 222 Fisher with 300 hours on it great shape hard top, or a 2014 240 in Brand new condition with 96 hours on it fold out soft top for exactly the same money. Keep in mind I am a fair weather boater, and I also tend to pull my boats out of the salt water after each trip to rinse and wash them down because I like value on my resale dollar, any advise. I am leaving tomorrow to view both, my heart is on the Whaler but not sure if my brain is firing in the right direction. Cheers Tight lines Wayne

If resale value matters your choice should be easy, all else being equal.

A boat that is 4 years younger than the Dauntless 240 is the same price. What does that tell you?

Whaler's don't sink.

Went and seen the 240 it was just as amazing as I thought it would be. Regrettably I was not comfortable towing it, with my Pathfinder. I am moving down in length to the 210 Montauc with trailer 4,400 lbs the lay out is very close, to the 240. Cheers
