I need advice on repairing some damage to the hull. I attached a photo of the damage. The damage is about 8" wide and 3" high. It's a few mm deep but no deep gouges into hull. The cable on my lift snapped and the boat spent a night rocking around the crib. The boat is a 2003 Ventura 160.
Can I repair this with some coats gelcoat only? Do I need to fill/smooth with something first (resin?)? Or maybe use gelcoat with some filler?
Also, any tips products or methods/pitfalls. I've noticed a few different gelcoats mentioned on the forum (in no particular order).
1. Total Boat
2. Spectrum
3. Advance Coatings Company
Thanks,
Bill

Is the fiberglass damaged of just gel coat. From the picture it looked like a large area and would be hard to believe it is only gelcoat. Total boat gelcoat is easy to work with good stuff. I would fill first with thickened resin. I would use structural filler. Then sand that and then Finnish with gelcoat. Just adding gelcoat would probably crack.

Archie,
Thanks for the feedback. The fiberglass does not have any deep gouges but it is worn down into it somewhat (few mm?). Based on your response and browsing the TotalBoat site, I'm thinking of using the following 3 products for this repair unless you recommend something different.
1) Fill with TotalFair
2) Prime with TotalProtect
3) Apply Gelcoat with wax
