Looking at a 1991 16 SL with a 2006 Evinrude 90. Trailer included. From ad, boat looks well maintained. Seller is asking 10k, NADA estimate is 7-8k. I'm extremely new to boat valuation. I personally like the SL as it seems a versatile vessel. I would like to know (after a sea trial and inspection of course) what I should offer. It has a painted bottom, which I need since this is a north east salt water inshore vessel. Much thanks!

NADA is worthless for boat values.

BUC is closer but still off given the overheated market. Prices have increased 75-125% since March 2020.

There are several components that make up the package. Each should be considered.

Trailer - 500-2k
Hull - 5-15K
Engine - 0 - 9k

The 16 SL is not one of the more popular models so it does not get premuim values.

The E-TEC 90 is a good engine for this boat as it is light and this model does not do well with heavy transom weights.

While the price is at the bottom of the expected range, this can also mean it is in poor condition.

How many engine hours?
Maintenace records?

Is the trailer painted, aluminum or galvanized? Rust?
Tires - replaced within 2 years?

Is the hull clean, shiny? Does everything work? What is broken?
Check the transom drains, signs of leakage.

If in very good shape assuming a trailer - 10K is more than fair.
If not in good shape with trailer- 4-8K

I don’t think 10k is out of line in this market. In the NE that’s what old Montauks are getting with old power. At least this is a somewhat recent 2 stroke.

Any worries about the fuel tank? I was interested in this model but it seems they can get wet.

Yes. It's a very big concern, and something I will have to check

Proud owner of a 1993 16-SL, this model offers a dry ride and is very capable hull.
Proper engine height, prop, and weight distribution within the boat male a huge difference

[May I resurrect your Thread -or- let me know & I'll open a new one.]

Also seeking to buy pre-1995 Boston Whaler. Found one: $6,300 MODEL #SL 16-foot starboard-side console. Prefer a 15-ft. Sport w/ Bimini Top but few & far between-- it's just me, boating solo, female, retired-- need something I can trailer/untrailer easily & safely. Also the 94-lb. Yellow Lab water-dawg.

1/ 2005 Yamaha 50-HP. Yes, I know "under-powered" but (aside from slow speed) is this a problem or dangerous otherwise?

2/ What to look for? I only have 4-photos of it, no close-ups thus unable to determine condition.

3/ Can 16-ft. LS be retro-fitted w/ typical aftermarket BIMINI TOPS on Amazon?

My first post, thanks kindly for welcoming me back to the Boston Whaler community.

Techsus-

The 16SL is a dual console boat. Is the candidate baot missing the port side?

1 - A: No

2- You need to inspect it in person.

3- Yes - You can use an aftermarket bimini.
