Hi folks, new member. I've perused for this info and have seen several related to sourcing replacement wood, but not run across this specific question.
1983 classic 15' Sport (steering wheel mounted on flat top of console).
I have a drawing dated 5/28/75 titled 'Wood locating diagram - 15'4" hull
it shows the location of wood embedded inside the hull (are these sometimes referred to as 'cleats'?), some of which I presume is to grab with screws while mounting the external wood (side rails, console, etc.) that I'm going to replace.
I'm curious (especially for the older 13's, 15's, 16's) if folks have just re-found and reused the original screw locations, or had issues with this (i.e. stripped threads/rotted internal wood) and presumably just drilled into new location that still finds the internal 'cleat'?
Also, any comments on pro's or con's of retrofitting the original sport console to the super sport (steering wheel mounted on rear of console bevel panel?
Finally, I see drawings in the download section for wood dimensions on 13 and 16, but not 15?? Am I missing that?
Much thanks!

The wood reinforcement material in the floor and gunnels is not referred to as "cleats". The material can be referred to as backing material.

The wood console has a side riser. This riser is attached to the deck with a strip of wood (called a cleat). The riser is screwed into the cleat. The cleat is screwed into the deck.

Any and all screws into the hull (deck, sides, transom, bow etc) must have a dab of marine sealant (i.e. Boat Life sealant) under the head of the screw to seal the hole.

Any holes in the boat (outside or inside) need to be sealed to keep water out of the hull.

If the cleat screws into the deck or riser are not usable, you can move the screw slightly and use fresh wood. It may also be wise to repalr the original holes.

If there is a screw hole that is enlarged and needs to be used, once can overdrill the hole by a 1/3" diameter, fill with marine epoxy and then drill for the original hole.
