I have been a boat owner all my life including a 15' SS from the 80s in the past. I have been eyeing this abandoned 18' Outrage for some time and finally was able to find the owner. They agreed to sell it to me for $1500 which seems great no matter the condition. It has been sitting in the water for 15 years and hasnt been started since 2011. The bottom looks like it hasnt been cleaned in 6 years. The deck drains are just out of the water which made me think that it may be water logged but today i looked and the bilge was full of water. If water sits in the bilge will it make it to the foam? I know I will most likely need to replace the fuel tank, as well as rewire the boat and steering. Is there anything else I should be worried about? I couldnt read the VIN but there was another number i saw A51792 if that means anything to anyone. Thank you all in advance. Really looking forward to getting a project boat for my kids and think this could be the one!
First thing I would do is pull it out of the water.
De-rig the console and move forward.
Remove the fuel tank cover. Remove any foam sheets on top of the tank.
Remove/replace fuel lines
Pressure test the tank to 3 psi
Replace the through hulls
Inspect the entire hull for damage to gelcoat/fiberglass. Repair.
Make sure you pressure wash and clean the boat as soon as you pull the boat from the water. Don’t let it dry without cleaning. 1500 in a great deal for sure. But now you have some work ahead of you. Can you put the boat on a trailer? I would pull all drain tubes out and let it try to dry in the tube holes. I would also have the hull weighed and see how heavy it is to see how much water is in it.
