I am beach launching my new 2005 130 sport. I run a Jeep. I had to put the whole thing in the water to launch at a beach. I won’t be doing that again. I have been researching trailer extensions all week. The conclusion I have come to is a 12ft section of 2x2 square aluminum at just over 2lbs per foot. I will put a receiver on the trailer tongue and a hitch on the other end. Steel tubing is way cheaper but 7lbs per foot. That would be a 85 pound extension versus a 35 pound one.
I also considered trying to hand dolly it into the water which may work getting it in but probably not getting it out(by myself)
Has anyone already crossed this road and have any advice? Thanks.
I have read of several techniques owners have used on the West Coast, South of the border and in Europe.
For you what comes to mind is the retracting 2nd tongue modification.
Add a 2nd tongue under the existing that has a coupler on the end and slides out and locks in place with a pin.
Move the trailer jack to the frame, off the tongue.
Weld or through bolt tabs or gussets on the existing tongue that extend below the tongue to hold a extension.
When you arrive at the beach, maneuver on to the beach. Stop the vehicle. Block the trailer wheels, decouple, drive forward. Stop. Pull out the extension, lock in place, re-couple, remove blocks and launch the boat,.
I have seen photos of this on a Whaler owners trailer....somewhere.
