Joe...need your advice - 1982 Monrauk 17 - the helm anchor board, anchored to the deck on port side AND
is partially rotten, to the point that the front most (bow side) screw that anchors the helm (sides) to the deck anchor board will not toghten/anchor the helm, therefore making the helm loose at that point! I really can't remove the helm to replace the rotten wood - IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TO DO TO HELP ELIMINATE THIS PROBLEM?

Grady -

Use bolts, nuts and washers and through bolt till the end of the season.

The console is attached to the deck using a cleat on the deck. The console walls have a board embedded in it. One uses a wood screw driven into the side of the console and into the cleat.

If the cleat is rotten, remove it. Seal the holes in the deck with Locktite Marine Epoxy.

Use the rotted cleat as a template and fabricate a new cleat. Install.

If the sides are rotten, fill the holes in the console sides with epoxy. Add a new board, coated in epoxy to the inside of the sidewall. You will need to reposition the existing cleat or new cleat to allow for new thickness of the side walls.

Drill holes and use bolts and through-bolt into the cleat.

Thanks Phil...as a temp repair, I decided to pack bad area with marine epoxy putty - now screw & console is holding like a rock!

New Q: What's the best product/way to make the old teak components look more like teak (at least brighter)..I have
lightly sanded, put appears teak oil is only making darker?

Hi Grady: Did you apply epoxy putty into the mahogany wood floor cleat and then insert the screw into the putty, letting it cure?
