What prop should I use? New boat owner 2005 130 sport

Member Posts: 9 Comments: 0 Joined: 08/04/21	Hi. I recently purchased a 2005 130 sport with the original 40hp engine. I am replacing the prop and I purchased the same prop as the old one. 3 blade 14 pitch. The original owner used it in a pond. I am using it on a bay with a family of 4. Just for cruising, fishing, maybe pull some tubes. Should I be using a different prop? I find it very confusing as I am new to this. I have read a 4 blade spitfire with a 12 or 13 pitch is good for getting out the gate and still have a goo top speed. I am not interested in anything really expensive. Any help would be appreciated. The original prop supplied by the factory was a 10.25 x 14 Mercury Black Max. This is more than adequate for you uses and is not expensive, as props go.
