Purchasing a 2011 Montauk 190 with a Verado 150 four stroke. Upcoming pre purchase inspection. Scheduled with a marina to pull the history from the engine and do a compression test. Planning on a sea trail.
What areas are recommended on the hull for inspection? Where are the hidden issues on these hulls usually found in this generation whaler? Any other engine inspection suggestions?
We sold our 190 Montauk with a 135 Verado last year. We loved the boat but my age made it difficult to maintain to my standard.
The boat and engine were virtually bullet proof. The hydraulic steering required the seals in the hydraulic ram be replaced on average at five year intervals. It's an easy DIY and can be accomplished by buying two new end caps. I recommend keeping a pair on hand for when they eventually fail. That way you need not miss more than a day of boating when they fail. Only one seal will leak but it is smart to replace them as a pair as the second seal won't be far behind.
Performance should be excellent with the 150 HP Verado. The engine has an outstanding reliability reputation.
I know of no areas of concern. As Phil posted the hull should be close to perfect.
With the Gen 2 engine I know of no potential issues. Just take care of the periodic maintenance as listed in the owner manual. As I said, the engine enjoys an outstanding reliability reputation.
