I recently bought a one owner Montauk 17 that seems to be in really good condition. I am trying to figure out the purpose of the screws shown in the attached photo? Are they OEM or something done by the previous owner?

Thanks,

BGS

Those were installed by a prior person. I would remove each screw, insert a dab of Boat Life marine sealant (not adhesive) and reinstall the screw.

Come winter, remove the screws and fill the hole properly with Locktite marine epoxy or Marine Tex.

I would also run a bead of sealant around and covering the O rings of all the drains, inside and out.

Add drain replacement to the winter project list.

Now go enjoy the boat for the rest of the season.

Thank you the boat is actually at the fiberglass/gelcoat guy getting interior screw holes filled. I will get him to do those as well. Now my mind moves to the intent of the screws? .... I am wondering if there are water intrusion problems that might need investigating and the screws were an attempt to drain the hull ... any thoughts from anyone on that?

Possibly.

Drilling holes like that will do nothing to get water out.

Do the drains look corroded?

Green line separation on the transom?

The drains look patinaed but would not call it corroded. When you say green line separation on the transom you are asking if there is a green line around the aft side of the transom and there is. I asked the one and only owner, after the original post, if he remembers. He cannot recall anything. He has a solid reputation and is not the type of guy to hold back or omit something if he knows. She is well used and well cared for, I doubt she has spent a day in the sun if she is not being used, or a night in the water unless she is underway.

Thanks for taking an interest and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
