Good day everyone. I purchased what I believe to be a 15 foot whaler, but am now being told that its a wahoo. I have researched and it still looks like any whaler I have ever came across. Are there any ways of resolving this?

That is not a Boston Whaler number.
See these BWC original tags.

However it does look like a Whaler hull to me.

Ok I see they have BW in the beginning. So I wonder what the AA stands for in my number. I see the wahoo boats have built in fuel tanks and aft battery compartments. This resembles a whaler to me but the previous owner says its a 2004 wahoo. From my experience I know the last two numbers on the tags mean the year of the boat which would make mine a 1967?

AAT is austin aeromarine, inc

It looks like the company went out of business sometime in the mid to late 80's. They made go fast hydroplanes. The boats they made don't look like Boston Whalers. They also had some high speed race boats they were trying to break the speed records with as well. Here is an example of the boats they sold.

I would guess someone swapped ID plates. I wouldn't be surprised if that boat is stolen. Personally, I would try to return the boat to the previous owner.

Can you take some pictures of the front or side profile of the hull to see if it looks like a 15' Whaler? The interior floor looks much like 15's? Does it seem like a foam file boat?

BTW I don't think the ID tag year format is set in stone that the manufacturer had use the last 2 digits of the ID tag as the year of manufacture.

Don't the 15's have flat transoms?

This boat does look similar, but to many little things seem to not match the 15 I had.
Transom eyes, capacity plate, transom, that stern light, the interior lines etc.

Thanks, Duane

Transom looks the same as this one to me except the Ski/Tow Eyes.

I have seen a number of Wahoo's in Washington, mostly around the mid, late eighty's. I believe yours is a Wahoo due to the stern light. If you google Wahoo boats, you'll get a ton of pictures that look very similar to BW. If you would post a picture of the exterior of the hull it would be easier to determine.

From what I can see, the interior of the hull molding itself is identical to my 15 - but yes, it would be better to see the bottom too. It is either a 15 or a knockoff made from a plug of a real one.
