On my personal page is the 1972 BW Katama I found online in VA. The bottom has never been painted, there is no crazing !!!! Original Katama helm and helm seat, the buckets are gone but I have a line on some :) Check out the Ritchie Explorer compass at the Helm :) Also look at the original Tach in the dash :) I also have the center bar that goes between the seats he had it out to fit a cooler on the seat. Owner had her for the last 30 years !!! He was the second owner.
Let me know what you think

The last photo is my boat I had as a kid.....

Great find!! Keep the photos coming of the restoration, well the polishing up of her. No need of a restoration on that one. Have fun.

Very cool find, especially with your specific interest in this layout. What is the grab rail shown in the "kids" picture?

I am about to fabricate a grab rail above the wind shield of my "raised helm Currituck 1966" but had ruled out going all the way to the starboard gunnel. I only have a small depth sounder mounted on the flat portion of the console, but I like being able to step from bow/stern without using the "walkway" on the port side.
Planning to have the new rail only extend the width of my raised console.

The grab rail was an OEM rail that goes between the two bucket seats in the bow...
If you look at the bottom photos of mine you can see I reinstalled it on the new boat :)

My dad had two Katamas when our family was very young and living on the south shore of Long Island NY. I remember them well. One had a 100hp Johnson and one with a 135hp Evinrude. Great boats for water sports and going to Fire Island beaches. Brings back many memories. Enjoy showing the good life on a Whaler to your family.
