Currently having 1966 16 custom redone(new gel-coat work). Debating over whether to replace side rails. If I do go back with the side rails I will have to replace all the mounting parts. Has any one dealt with Specialty Marine in Cal and do they sell a quality product. I will send some photos out when boat is finished, having inside redone and did repower with ETEC 90. Original Nauset that has been in family since 1973. Any one have photos of older custom Whalers they could share with me. Not to many older model whalers running Galveston Bay.
You have several options regarding side rails for your BW16 custom. You can repair your existing rails; You can buy brand new OE side rails from Boston Whaler; or you can buy a non-OE designed side rail set from Specialty.
You can buy stanchions and t-fittings to replace the old. Call Sue at Twin Cities for the OE parts; or Shaun at CMI Marine.
If you wanted brand new OE side rails, a set can be bought from Boston Whaler for $325.
The Specialty side rail set sells for $379. not including shipping. The t-fittings have allen head screws. You may search WC for previous discussion(s) of buyers of Specialty rails having difficulty assembling the product.
My choice would be to buy a set OE from Boston Whaler. Guaranteed fit and quality.
Avoid the hassle with silly, 3 page assembly instructions from Specialty.
