I think I learned my lesson. Don't ask. Just do.

They do not often ask, but if they make changes I don't like or make it harder to get to the information i am looking for I find the info some place else and stop using their site. Most of the other sites I use are really just online forums, and don't have a lot of saved content the way WC does but i still feel the same, make it hard to find what i am looking for and i will go someplace else.

You ask the question on the other thread, what happens if you threw a party and no one came (not an exact quote)? What would happen if you made so many changes to WC that people here struggled to find the information. Would it still be 'The Roadmap to "all thing Boston Whaler" ', if the users of the site left before they could find the info they were looking for?

You have developed a nice clean website with lots of content and interactive forums. Not every visitor will use everything all the time, but when they are looking for it, it is here.

I vote yes, no doubt, but...

It is very difficult to find things on this site.

MG56, perhaps you can elaborate on what you were looking for and why you found it a challenge? That way Joe could look to address those issues?

Might be better in another thread but basically there are too many starting paths, or ways to get lost.

The older side Navigation panel is now gone.

I have added a new Drop Down Navigation bar in the Sub-Header under the WhalerCentral Logo.

Nothing has been taken away. Just moved to a new location.

So you still have the same 2 choices of viewing links on this site.
1. Sub-Header Drop Down Navigation Bar
2. Site Map (which is also on the new Nav bar)

Sorry for being so dense, Joe, but I cannot find the Nav Bar drop down tab in the menu bar under the Whaler logo. What is it called?

Main
Maps

Related Web Links

OK.......I'm assuuming the drop down unter the "Main" tab in the submenue is the replacement for the Left Nav Bar. It seems to me that there were more topics on the old left nav bar, but perhaps that was just my perception.

I like the random photos as well, thanks Joe.

Paul,

Yes, those are the exact same headings we had in the left nav panel.
If you take your mouse over "Main" and without clicking, a menu should drop down of the things in the Main menu.
Same goes for the other headings.

Gary,
Same thing.
There are still 40 links in those headings just like they were on the old side nav panel.

Home (just a link on its own)
Main = 11 links
Maps = 2 links
Members Information = 8 links
Photo Gallery = 9 links
Related Web Links = 5 links
RSS Feeds = 3 links
Site Map (just a link on its own)

If anyone has trouble seeing the menu drop down automatically just by moving your mouse over them, please let me know.

Cliff and Ron,
Thanks.
Yes, much less clutter. Cleaner. Slimmed down and hopefully less confusing for newer members.

OK, got it now. The entire horizontal submenu bar replaces the old verticle left nav. bar.

Great idea (hits own head with hammer)

I agree....now WC is more in line with MANY other boating forums I use and am familiar with.

Thanks Joe.....you nailed it this time!

I always thought that 40 links on the left sidebar was a waste of space and made the site look cluttered.

It was a lot of hard work to get the new Sub-Header working and looking the way I wanted.
It completely replaces the previous Sub-Header that didn't have the drop down menus.
That is one of the reason I asked if people really used the old side Navigation panel. Apparently they do by the vote.

The 40 links would not fit in the prior Sub-Header. Not enough space.
Home-Articles-Downloads-Forum-Site News-Site Map-Site Search-etc., etc.
So, the new Sub-Header with the drop down menus in the categories listed gives us enough room.

Cliff,
Yes the personal pages is a good one.
However, I have some other ideas I would like to add in the future.
I would like that bottom panel to rotate between:
1. Latest Personal Pages
2. Latest Photo Albums
3. Latest Project Albums
4. Latest Whaler Models
5. Latest Part Photos

and maybe a couple of others.
That is for another time.

Glad everyone likes the new Sub-Header so far.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Well, I couldn't stand it.
I have just added the rotating panels at the bottom of the page that now changes the panel between the 5 listed above. They rotate randomly.
