My sister-in-law purchased an Outrage 18 over the winter. It performs reasonably well with the current prop, which appears to be a generic aluminum - turns right up to the 6K redline. I don't have a speed measurement, but it's starting to chine walk at WOT so I'm guessing high 40s. However, it just feels to me that the prop isn't gripping very well - seems to ventilate a bit on initial accelleration, and in some turns. So I'm advising her to get a decent SS prop, but I need some help on size.

The existing prop looks like a generic black aluminum, and it's in decent shape. I didn't see any markings on it anywhere, and it doesn't seem to have much cup. From using a prop calculator, with RPM = 6K, gear ratio 2.14:1, a guess at 8% slip, and a guess at 47 MPH, I come up with 19-pitch. Can anyone confirm this from a similar boat / motor?

If it's a 19, I'm thinking to go to a 17-pitch in a Stiletto Advantage II, but with the motor's wide range of allowable WOT RPM, might consider going with the 19-pitch and bringing the WOT RPM down a bit. Again, if someone has specific experience with this combination of boat and motor I'd appreciate hearing about it.

I also forgot to check where the motor is mounted so advice on that would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Tim

I recommend the 14-1/4" x 19" Stiletto Advantage 4.75 with a DE-507 hub kit (or square bore hub kit of your choice.)

The motor should be at least two holes up if not three.

I have a 1986 18' Ooutrage with a 2007 Mercury 150. This boat is new to me and I have just recently got her wet. A few salmon trips now but no WOT as the seas have not been accomodating. So far I had a 19 pitch on with resluts of low RPM's. I went to a 17 pitch and now get in the 5750 to 6000 range. Please remember I have not been able to fully run it up because of the seas (fully trimmed in motor) but so far it looks like a 19 pitch is too much. I will be looking for a SST prop and not sure myslef how much of an effect I should expect to see going form an aluminum prop to a good SST.

Saying ...I run a 17" or 19" means absolutely nothing if we don't know what brand and model of 17 pitch propeller" you are talking about.

Well, not quite nothing but you always have to consider the particular prop not just its pitch and diameter. You tell us you have an aluminum prop an I think we can stop right there; that propeller is not good enough.

salmonboy -- We are discussing an Outrage 18 with a Honda BF150. You have a Mercury 150. Those two motors have different RPM ranges, and different gear ratios so it *might* be they need different propellers. Let's explore the possibilities for your boat in a new thread you start while we continue to discuss Tim's boat here. I have some solid advice for you I will share in your new thread.

Thanks Tom - I think that's what I am going to recommend to her. It's fun spending someone else's money!

The same propeller is available as the Honda Turbo, Honda part # 58233-ZY3-A19H. It has a $604.14 list price

The Advantage can be had for $250 delivered with the hub kit.

Thanks Tom - I will convey that price to the chancellor of the exchequer. She may not be interested in pulling the trigger until the fall, but I'll let you know.

Thanks Tom - mail sent! I also checked her mounting height - it's slammed all the way down now, so I think we'll try coming up two holes with the new prop.
