On my 1970 Standard 13, I plan to extend the transom up flush with the rest of the stern to accept a long shaft motor and prevent water from entering. My thoughts are to use a formed aluminum or stainless "U-Channel" that mimics the transom thickness and shape in the area, and potentially have it wrap all the way down the exterior (glassed in) to provide an excellent motor mount. A couple of questions are: 1. Is this a good idea? 2. What should i use as filler inside of the "U-Channel" at the top area of the transom to fill the void? 3. Is there a compelling reason to use Stainless vs. Aluminum? Thank you for your response.
That adapter has another advantage. Some where down the road, it might be taken off for another motor.
With only a few holes to fill, that is attractive.
