Can anyone recommend what type of gauges were available for the console of my newly aquired SS? I can see where they go ,but not sure what options were available at the time. nothing there right now, just wood.

Gauges were on option when the boat was rigged with the motor.
What brand of Outboard Motor do you have?

Here are some choices of the different OMC gauges that were and are available today.

2 of the most important gauges in my opinion are:
1. Tachometer
2. Voltmeter (if you have electric start)

Some Fishfinders/GPS etc., may have a voltmeter already built-in so you may not need a separate voltmeter...

Other gauges,
Trim & Tilt
Hour Meter
Cylinder Head Temp
etc...

I have 5 gauges on my Outrage 18' which is plenty for me.

Tach
Voltmeter
Trim & Tilt
Hour Meter
Speedometer

I do not need the speedometer but there was already a large hole there for one so I filled the hole.
I would have rather put a Cylinder Head Temp gauge there but would need either a new instrument panel plate or some kind of an adapter to go from large hole to small hole.

I have always recommended, and I still do, to buy gauges of the same brand as your engine.
If you own a Mercury engine then buy Mercury gauges.
If you own an OMC engine, they buy OMC gauges.
etc...

Joe is absolutely correct however if you're unable to find OEM gauges for your boat, a great alternative would be to use either Faria gauges or Teleflex gauges.
