Hello Fellow Whaler Nuts ,

Iam thinking about putting on a new commercial Rubrail on my 1979 v22 outrage . I was told it really make a difference to the looks of the boat when you replace the rubrail . Will the commercial Rubrail fit my boat . How much more $$ is it ? How difficult is it to put on ? I will be doing it in the spring most likely . Also what happens in the stern does it still use the end caps that i currently have ?

Thanks , Bob

You will need help. The rubrail comes coiled up and needs to be heated up to be softened up. At the factory the stuck them in a big oven, but you can put it in a large black trashbag and leave it in the sun on a warm day. Make sure it is a black trashbag as it will heat it up better. We put a bead of 5200 on the gunnel and taped the rubrail to the gunnel. You will need help with that. You can screw the rubrail to the gunnel or even rivet it. I would go with the stainless screws. You will probably need different end caps as the commercial rubrail is thicker. You will be smart to fill the old holes from the old rubrail. The insert might look like a garden hose and needs to be carefully hit in with a plastic hammer.
They commercial rubrail is not cheap but will give you more protection and look great. Good luck
