Hi all!
I am a new member who recently bought a 1984 17 foot super sport. I am converting it to a center console.
I would like to mount the gas tank under the new seat and was wondering how to run the gas line under the deck for a clean finish. My boat has 2 tunnel entrances, one where I plan to put the center console and one at the stern. I have seen Montauks with a gas line entrance under the seat, this does not exist in the boat I bought. Can it be added and how? What is the tunnel made from? Or is the best option just to run the gas line forward into the console and then underneath to the back? Thanks!

I have a hole under my tank cut down into the tunnel (see my PP) If you do this make sure that you glass the cored foam to keep the water out.

Thanks Guts! Super clean boat there! Did you drill the hole yourself? What was the tunnel material made from - seems to me like some sort of metal sheeting??? I am in SD as well. I have about 2 more months work left on my boat - only weekends available for it. Thanks

It is all fiber glass in my 1981 Montauk 17 from top of deck to inside of the tube is around two inchesĀ± glass the foam in-between the deck and tunnel, I used fiber glass mat on mine. It was a long time ago I did this and my shoe strings are longer than my memory.

Where are you in ca. ?

Thanks Guts - I am in Carlsbad. I just bought the boat, a 17 ft Super Sport. I just purchased a center console and am in the process of starting the wiring...Do you use your boat primarily for fishing?

The tunnel in the 1984 Super Sport 17 is made of 4" diameter aluminum tubing.

You can drill any hole you want, anywhere you want into the tunnel. The factory drilled two overlapping 2" holes to create an oval in the floor.

This leaves the fiberglass and foam core exposed on the sides of the hole and the factory never made any effort to seal this.

A plastic Hawse Pipe or grommet was then installed as trim.

You are free to use whatever piece of trim hardware you like to pass the fuel hose through but I recommend you choose something large enough to accommodate the fuel connectors too. A stainless steel Garboard Drain fitting works well (with the plug omitted, of course).
