Hello!

I´ve just recently found this fantastic site and this is my first post!

I have been interested in Whalers for ages and now is the time for me to find one! A Montauk or an Outrage 18 or 19 has been on the top of my list, but just a few minutes ago I found this ad on a Scandinavian site:

http://www.finn.no/finn/boat/used/vie...e=23138111

It is advertised as a 20 footer from 1994 (no model name) and to my novice eyes it sure looks like an Outrage?

However! It is advertised as a 20 footer but this length is supposedly measured along the "water line" of the boat, so it is probably longer than that? Very vague information in the ad I´m afraid but ´ll give them a ring tomorrow.

I will appreciate any info and advice you fine members might want to share!!

And a huge thanks to the Administrators/Owners of this site!! It´s such a wealth of knowledge and information for newbies like me!!!
And extremely friendly too!

THANKS!

Jim

It might be a 85-89 Outrage 20.
I have an 84 which has removable storage lockers / seats in the front. That one has molded seats in the front.

Looks like a pretty nice boat. Is is being sold by a dealer or an individual? If it is a dealer, you should be able to contact them for more details and also see if they can give you the Hin numbers. If you can get that, there will be no question as to what it is.
Welcome to the site and please keep us informed with your progress

I don't think there is anyway that it is a 1994 model.
The console is no later than 1990-1991. Unless it has been changed out.

20' models have a Stencil Number beginning with 8A

I don't think it is a 22' but it is hard to tell from the photos without guessing a little.
Here are the 22' models and they have a Stencil Number starting with A2 or F2.

Jim,
I bet that the boat is a 22 outrage from the mid 80's. I see 3 clues.
a. 5 legs on each side of the bow rails. Most 20's used 4.
b. Aft most bow rail leg starts on the front edge of teak board. Most 20's have the aft leg mounted ahead of teak.
c. The step up from cockpit level to forward lids is fairly small 1-2 inches. Most 20's have a higher step up like 3 to 4 inches.

Thanks a lot for all your replies!!!

I have sent the company an email and I am waiting for their reply. I am currently out at sea on my ship and have a very bad phone connection, so I can´t phone them.

I´ve asked them for all info they have and HIN number as well.

Will report back as soon as I know more!

A 22 Outrage is somewhat too big for my needs, but I do remember the first time I ever rode one of these in the ocean!! Vividly!!

I´ll be back soon!

And Joe! Thanks for the links!!

All the best!

Jim

That is a very nice example of a 1987, 1988 or 1989 Outrage 20.

Note the following:

- Welded bow rail (not used before 1987 on the Outrages)

- Wilcox-Crittenden Bow Lights (not used after 1989)

- Teak Gunwale boards (very nice condition and not seen much after the late 1980s)

sailerman -- Your comments are true for the original Outrage 20 made from 1978 to 1985 but not for the later 20s which were based on the 22.

Tom!

Thanks for your clarification!! :-)

But sadly, the boat is sold! :-( SO I´m back to square one I´m afraid!!
And the seller ´seemed a bit reluctant to give me any info because of this.

On the other hand, there´s a 73 Currituck and a 84 Montauk for sale here on my side of the pond, so I´ll have to to check these out.

Thanks again for helping a newbie!!

Jim

A 80s Outrage 18 is probably the most popular around here.
Good luck
