just knocking around on the website and go to wondering what is the difference in the super sport 15 and the sport 15 1985. i think i have a supersport due to the wood configuration but the rails look like some of the sport 15s however i have seen the wood configuration look like the sport 15 but with the full rails.

Yours does not have the bow rails for the super sport so I would guess that you have a sport that someone has installed the supersport seating configuration. Best way to find out for sure is to go by the id number on the boat

Monti,

You can't tell by the HIN serial or stencil number unless you send it to Boston Whaler. Then they can only tell you what model it left the factory as.

Without looking really close at your model, yours has been altered.

1. A Super Sport has both the bow rail and side rails built into one railing.
If it was a Super Sport, this one piece railing has been removed due to the forward platform for fishing.

2. If it was a Sport, then someone had the optional Side Rails added and it appears they also added the Super Sport rear seat or made it look like a Super Sport rear seat.

My best guess.
It was a Super Sport and someone removed the one piece railing and then they added the Side Rails.

In our "Whaler Models and Info" on the left sidebar, you can view what the Super Sport railing looked like.
Here is a 1987 Super Sport with the railing and rear storage seat.

thanks for the info, after thinking about it, i cannot see where the full bow rail was mounted onto the deck. the platform begins about 3 inches inboard from the rubrail. so in my opinion it must be a sport with a supersport interior. but if it is the interior config that determines which model then i guess it must be a "mutt" albeit a very nice mutt.
thanks

Monti,

Many boats have had their interiors customized through the years.
Some beyond any recognition of anything looking to be original.
Some people put in aftermarket consoles, seats, etc.....

On WhalerCentral, any boat that has had the interior customized, then we call it a "Custom" model.
We really have no other choice because it doesn't fit any of the models interiors that were original.

You could basically go either way.
1. Super Sport with one piece bow rail removed.
2. Sport with Super Sport seat and storage.

If I were you, I would send cbennett@whaler.com an email along with your HIN and stencil number to find out what model it left the factory as.
I would bet that it left the factory as a Super Sport model.

EDIT:
Don't I see circles on your bow steps where the original one piece railing would have been screwed down???

Or is that my imagination?

They would have had to remove the original ss rail to build the casting deck. It really doesn't matter the original model. If it works for you, go for it.

Joe, I'm gonna have to disagree with you. I think it is a sport with supersport interior. If it was a Supersport and the extended bow rails had been removed then I would think that there would be some sort of tell tail marks on it revealing where it was mounted. Please let us know what you find out from Chuck Bennet at Whaler

Tom,

No problem.. These are just guesses by any of us at this time.

Here's one for you though.
Do those side rails look original?
They look too high to me for a 13'.....
It could be someone had the side rails made to fit in the old holes....
Again, just another guess.

Look at mine and I think they look about the same. I think also, this is a 15 and not a 13. This is really going to be interesting to see what Chuck has to reveal about it

ok guys i think i have it figured out, due to joe's keen eye and knowledge of bw boats. the circles he saw on the bow steps have to be where the old railing was installed, as in my breif narrative the boat was used as a tender and bait boat for a huge sport fisher. therefore if i put a bait casting deck on the boat the original bow rail would be in the way to pull the cast net on board. i will confirm this by sending the hin number to boston whaler to confirm. as i have not seen what a stock 1985 bw 15 supersport looks like "in person" i would not be able to put it together what the circles on the bow step were for.
thanks guys

I like it when my guesses are correct.

Now you know you have a 1985 Super Sport 15...

The one piece wrap around bow and side rail has been removed and standard side rails have been added in its place.
