I am looking at a 2005 170 Montauk 90HP Merc 2 stroke. The owner says the moter is more economical than the 4 stroke because of its weight. I was a little suprised with that! Does anyone have an opinion or experience with the 90 2stroke. What price would be fair for a boat like this. Good condition with a little over 100 Hrs. No options.

Thanks

Jim

This Montauk 170 is only 5 years old.
They sold new for around $22k to $24k if my memory is correct.

Nothing wrong with a 2005 Mercury 90hp 2 Stroke but it surely isn't as quite or economical as the majority of the 4 strokes.
I certainly wouldn't replace the newer engine just for fuel economy.
