As you can see from my Personal Page my bottom paint is faded and chipped in many places.
I would like to strip off the paint, sand and repaint to start next season fresh. I leave my boat in the water and have barnacles on the bottom. I scrape off the barnacles periodically. What can I use to strip off the existing bottom paint?
Also, I can only work in the boat while it is on the trailer so I will miss some spots. I would appreciate any suggestions, internet resources or links.
Thanks,
Mike

I would use Peel-Away Marine safety strip.

That Peel-Away sounds pretty good that Jeff mentioned. Why can't you get a floor jack and a stout board or 2x4 and jack the boat up a few inches on one side. Then very carefully apply the stripper/paint without getting hands/fingers between the hull and bunks? Do the same to the other side. Then you will get complete coverage. Make sure to chock the trailer wheels if you do it that way though. Good Luck

Hey Jeff, I noticed there is PEEL AWAY® MARINE SAFETY STRIP & PEEL AWAY® MARINE STRIP II.
Do we need to worry about removing the epoxy barrier coat?

Mike,
you have keel rollers on your trailer, get the trailer where you want to work, tilt the engine down, put your stern straps on and then you can drop the bunks on the trailer. The boat will stay upright and won't tip so you can strip off the paint. the only spots you will miss is where she is sitting on the rollers.

I had my bottom soda blasted. The guy who did it took my boat off of the trailer as part of the price. Not a perfect job, but far better than sanding. Not to mention I wasn't covered in paint after the job was done.

The 15 foot Whaler is so small that it would be a simple matter to remove the motor and flip the hull over. This will make the bottom paint stripping about one thousand percent easier to accomplish!

Flipping would be very easy. It only took 4 to flip my 17.
