I have 98 Montauk and need to replace the Igloo cooler seat positioned in front of the console. What size cooler? Thanks.

None -- previous owner lost it years ago.

OK...

Do you have any cleats already installed?

The main reason is that if you already have cleats, you may need a specific size cooler.

Some of the newer models used the 72 qt...
You still could use the 94 qt like the rest of the older models but it depends on any cleats.

Here is the original replacement cooler.

Joe, Thanks. There are fittings and straps still in place; I'll measure the width and head up to West Marine to see what they have.

The 1985 that I just got has a 72qt that is kind of beat up. I thought that if I was going to replace it I might go with a 94 and move my cleats. Upon measuring though, I'm a little concerned that the 94 might stick out past the console as it specs. at 34.5 in. and my console is only about 32 in. Moving the cleats might make them a trip hazzard. My thought now is to just get another 72 and not have to relocate the cleats. The only reason I considered the 94 was to maybe pick up a little more seat width.

Northern Exposure,

Those cleats you show in your personal page are not original nor are they Boston Whaler.

Take a look in the Downloads section for drawings of the original style cleats.

The standard size cooler used on Montauks up until the mid to late 90's was the 86 qt which is now replaced by the 94 qt...
Look at the last photo on my Montauk page here:
http://users.sisqtel.net/jkriz/Montau...ntauk.html

The cooler is not too wide nor is it as wide as the Reversible Pilot Seat.
Also notice the Console Rod Holders with the seat back cushions for the cooler seat.

Joe,
I see what you mean. Guess I should look into getting original cleats. I like those seat backs too! Looks like they attach right over the rod holders.

On a different note (should I start a new thread?) In the same picture of your rig I noticed the pedestal seat. I have four big empty screw holes on the front of the locker in the bow. I suspect that there might have been a seat bracket there before. Are those seats reasonably easy to find?

Thanks Joe.

I recently replaced the cooler on my Montauk. I started with the 72 quart Igloo marine, but it ws too small. I use it with a cushion for seating and it was too narrow to support two adults comfortably. I swapped the 72 for the 94 quart and I'm very happy with it. It is a bit wider but not noticeably so. I have yet to deal with the cleats and 'bungees to attach it.

Mike
