We have a 13' Whaler Sport with a 40 HP Yamaha two-cycle outboard. We are thinking of installing a power tilt/trim kit to make life easier. I understand CMC has a smaller model PT35 good for 35 HP and less outboards and a PT 130 for greater than 35 HP. Does anyone have any experience with this Mfg. and could I get away with utilizing the PT35 ??? Thanks in advance for your input.

I just installed a PT 35 this weekend, with my 20hp Yamaha 4 stroke. I can't say if the 35 would work or not... it probably is a function of both outboard weight and HP straining the unit. CMC is great on the phone, I'd ask them... but I'm sure they'll want you to get the 130.

How much heavier is the 130? They have the same hydraulic unit.

I believe they are about the same, trying to save a little $$ since I would need to buy the adapters for mounting which is another $54.00. I did ask and yes they want you to purchase the PT-130 model. I don't want to risk losing the motor if I went with the PT35 so I guess I'll think about it over the Winter. Maybe my wife will surprise me at Christmas-------NOT Thanks

If it can handle the weight of a 4 stroke 35 hp then it could probably handle the weight of your motor. I don't think the PT135 has any thicker metal, I wonder if it has a beefed up hinge? Those are the only two things I can think of that would make it stronger since the power unit is the same... if not, I might roll with the PT 35... but if your transom falls off, I'd switch to the PT 130 Wink

I put the larger unit on my Tracker with a 40 HP Jonson.
It's beefy! The only issue is it tends to scoop up water from between the transom and the bracket.
At 20 Knts a little water is rolling up into the splash well. It shoots up about a foot.
If the engine case is not sealed, things could get wet back there. I have never had a problem.
The good price is about $500 used. I found one for $250 on CL complete with relays and switch.

Happy hunting

Karl
