I am trying to find out the best way to install a new helm on my 1988, 13 sport. I just bought a new Teleflex Safe -T-QC kit. Do I need to cut a hole out in my (new) side board (from Speciality Marine) to feed the cable thru? Where the helm sits, it seems that the bend in the cable will be too sharp. Anyone have pictures of their helm set up? PLEASE HELP! I want to get this project finished so I can show you all how pretty this is. Also i'm looking for a used Johnson/OMC throttle control.
Thanks again,
Ronbo

Yes, you need to cut a hole in your side board, but it will be under the top of the console and so won't show. The angle shouldn't be a problem--I used one of the old holes from the cable steering with no problem--but careful location and a bit of chamfering wouldn't hurt. I can add a picture later.

Have you already removed the old cable. I always tyy to use the old one like a fish tape to pull the new one through. Sorry I'm not familiar with your project but that's usually the easiest solution.

Thank you guys! I hate to put thru the trouble. But if you could post pictures I would really appreciate it.
I'm not very mechanically inclined.

Thanks again,

Hooked up with a really nice gentleman (Joel) Joel's Outboards, here in Fort Lauderdale that knows tons about Whalers. If you are local and have any questions concerning Boston Whalers. He's the man.
