What kind of wood were the seat and consoles of a 1977 Sport 13? I keep getting conflicting answers about whether the wood was mahogany or teak and I can't tell what kind mine was because it was painted over. I was told it was teak by the owner but a friend looked at it and it looked like mahogany to them.

Ya know, I bet you can bring that old wood back to life by simply stripping or sanding the old paint off. It would require a substantial amount of work however it's much easier on the wallet than buying new.....that is if that's the route you're considering.

That is what im considering except for the fact im missing the front seat. It was lost years ago. What would be the best way to finish it after the stripping of the paint?

If you decide to go with new wood and want to DIY, I've got some extra 1" thick mahogany boards from my BW 11 footer restoration and don't know what to do with it. I'm inclined to hold onto it, but expect resistance from wifey. Was thinking about putting it on Craig's List for a local sale (Jersey Shore), but would be glad to give WC members first dibs.

I use "Zip Strip" Chemical stripper, take off the paint and see what shape the wood is in.

You can get a replacement front seat from Nautical Lumber or Speciality Marine. I got a complete new interior for my 1982 11 Sport from Mike at Nautical Lumber. They do good work!
