I trailer my boat and have noticed there is a brown colored line coming from the plastic drain in the top of the transom. Any suggestions on what this is. how do i repair and prevent going forward?

Thanks

It is always helpful to know the year and model of your Whaler before we can help.

Sounds like "coca-cola" as we called it. It happens when water and polyester resin sit for a while and it leaks out. I've seen it even on a new Whaler after sitting for a while if water intrudes into the hull between the top cap and the outer hull. It may then run out under the rubrail screws. If the area you are talking about is where I'm thinking, (splashwell drain tube) you could have water seeping in either at the fitting itself or through the trim piece that covers the transon top area and runs under the motor's bracket. You normally have to pull the motor to check if you have an intrusion it that spot though. It can be a sign of water in the hull but many confuse it with rust. We'll need some more info and even pics to be sure however if I was betting on it, I'd lay pretty stout odds this is the problem. It is not normally a major problem, but you may be pulling the motor and the rubrail and resealing everything. Post a pic if you can and we'll go from there.
