I purchased my banana hull ribbed outrage four years ago and it still has the ugly custom metal console that a lobsterman had built to fish with. I want to find or rebuild an original console for this classic whaler. Can anyone point me into the right direction?
All I can say is "good luck", but you might find one somewhere on the web if you are patient and lucky. The teak top portion is now available, I am told, at Nautical Lumber, probably at a pretty stiff price since it is a complicated affair, complete with white teak deck caulking.
The fibergalss base unit, with shelf and piano hinged access door, is probably REALLY hard to find loose. I understand that Nautical also makes a reproduction of the base in wood.
CMI, Whaler's original rail suppier, does not have the rail patterning, so no luck there. Best chance is to find another boat, and get the owner to let you have the rail copied. Mills makes the repacement canvas windshield in Toast Sunbrella.
Here is my all original console, with varnish work by me. I was lucky enough to find a ribside that had not been torn apart by the previous owner, like so many have been.
Mike at Nautical Lumber (site sponsor) is currently building in the process of building some of these consoles. He has an OEM original in his shop that he is using for a template. Check with him as he may have one that is not spoken for yet.
