I am a new member with this recently purchased boat. I am told that this is a "rare" set up with the aft gas tank. The aft section of the boat has the gas tank on center, no seats like other 17 outrages, and it has access panels to the battery on the stbd and storage on the port. On the deck above the tank there are two 4" holes that look as if they are access holes or even potentiall cup holders (I doubt that was the intended design).
Regardless, does anyone know what they are for and how to properly cover them?
I am also looking to find the well nuts to fix the windshield.
Sometime in 1991 they removed the storage area and added quarter seats.
Here is a 1991 with the storage boxes. http://www.whalercentral.com/infusion...ser_id=145

The holes are indeed intended for cup holders. Well, they're intended to facilitate access to the fuel sending unit on the port side and the fuel hose on the starboard side but covered with plastic cup holders.
The fuel tank location tends to make the vessel stern heavy. It'll really sag with a full load of fuel and some of today's heavy 4-stroke engines. I'm running an etec 115 and have relocated my batteries to my center console. The boat sits in the water better with improved planing and ride quality compare to the original factory setup IMO.
