When I purchased my 82 Montauk, it came with an EZ Loader trailer (rollers vs bunks). At the time, I was told... even by the manufacturer... that this would be fine. Well... now Im having my doubts. I see a crack in the hull right over the rear set of rollers. My boat generally spends no more than a few days per year on this trailer... either in storage on bunks (so Im told) or in my lift or on the water.
Is this something I need to deal with... replace rollers with bunks or new trailer?
Being on the trailer for only a few days a year, I would question this being a weight distribution/stress issue. As far as I understand, although not recommended, many people use these trailers on a long term basis with no problems.
I would guess this is either a coincidence (happened not on the trailer, happens to be near the roller) or an isolated incident (eg at the boat ramp) that could be avoided.
But then again, a 1982 boat will have a few small cracks.
