In the example I cited above, PVC (actually CPVC) pipe glue was used to secure the flange components to the pipe. The CPVC glue and pipe are rated at 400 PSI. Not much chance of this bond being broken.
A flange-hull bond with either 5200 or 4200 would be plenty sufficient. This is what is often recommended when things like thru-hull transducers are installed.

Ironically, the plastic two piece drain tubes do not fit the new Whalers very either.
I have seen them installed from the factory with gaps up to 3/8". They were designs not to be a superior alternative to formed bass, but a less expensive. less laborious alternative to formed brass.
For all the endless talk about alternatives to the brass drain tubes, I have yet to see anybody come up with anything as good.
I have to agree the brass is by far the best way to go but it certainly is not an easy job for the casual home handy guy. Consider that I spent $54 on the tool and another $21 at McMaster plus the 5200 and a lot of labor. Someone said their dealer charges $85 to install a new tube and that sounds like a real bargain to me after all I went through to get mine right. I only had one drain in need of repair and Joe made a mighty gracious offer to help me out for free but it is a mighty long haul from my place here in NY over to his.
Someone with a metal lathe could get it set up easy enough and have a nice little cottage industry making easy to install 2 piece brass tubes with the flares already on them.

Something to keep in mind...
After personally testing a variety of adhesives including 5200, 4200, and West Systems epoxy, I discovered none of it works well with PVC. It will literally peel right off as if the PVC has some sort of release agent. Even when the PVC pipe was scuffed well with 100 grit sandpaper.
After my own testing experience, I would never trust trying to seal plumbing PVC to a hull below the water line.
I use an automotive raw-plastic cleaner to remove any release agents on the PVC.

You can clean it with whatever you want. 5200 and 4200 will peel right off PVC. It just doesn't bond. There is a reason why the agents used for PVC actually dissolve the material making a physical weld.
I'm glad your installation is working out for you.

I don't use adhesives. I use epoxy. Not for nothing paint sticks to PVC to. I'm in the paint business. I know what I'm talking about. Anyone can do whatever they want with their drain tubes. I'm just posting from experience.

Good news. After almost 8 days of 85 - 100 degrees and zero rain my foam was as dry as a popcorn fart and I have all the leaks sealed. I was finally able to wash down the insides and get a lot of the gunk and years of vegetation growing in the wire tunnel washed out so it could dry up and be cleaned out.
I am just about as dry and think it is time for a beer and shot or two of Cuervo.

Plenty of work yet to be done but it made no sense if the unsinkable was still taking on water.
