prep teak for varnishing

Joe, What is the best way to prep my teak on my Mantauk so I can varnish it? The last time I oiled it was a year ago. Living in Florida is just doesn't hold up like the varnish will.
And what is a smirked or smirkless hull?
Sorry I just don't no about that type of hull?

I just posted a response under an topic of varnishing. Take a look at it. Extra effort, but I'm into this boat for the long haul. Whaler projects are always fun.....honest!

Sure looks good!!! How did you treat your teak to take 0ut the oil? The last time I oiled my teak was about a year ago. I think I need to pull the old oil out and then sand the wood befor applying any epoxy or varnish.
